Dark suits and ties were off the political agenda for Croatian ministers on Thursday, as they arrived for their cabinet session dressed in the red and white jerseys of the national football team.
They were celebrating their country’s victory in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against England.
Croatia beat England 2-1 after extra time on Wednesday (11th July) and will now face France in the final in Moscow on Sunday (15th July).
They have already beaten their previous best World Cup result which was third place at France ’98.
“This team has moved a step forward from our old team in 1998,” Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said. “This can confirm only one thing, that we have become a football superpower. And most probably after this we will have a little bit more confidence in our own country. Not only in football, but in general.”
